CSA FAQs

What is a CSA?

CSA stands for “Community Supported Agriculture,” and a CSA “share” or “subscription” offers a way for you to support local farming while receiving fresh-from-the-farm weekly seasonal crops from the bounty of farmers’ harvests. By subscribing to our CSA you become an instrumental part of supporting local farmers' businesses. Your share provides guaranteed market, paid upfront to assist with the season’s production needs.

How do I sign up?

It’s easy! Go to our CSA sign-up page www.worldfarmers.org/csa and follow the instructions. We have pick-up locations across eastern Massachusetts for your convenience.

Why World Farmers' CSA?

World Farmers operates Flats Mentor Farm in Lancaster, MA, which provides access to land and markets to over 300 immigrant and refugee farmers from over 20 countries. Each farmer’s crop plan reflects the food of their home, and each week we will feature a new cultural crop for you to try at home, complete with a recipe card for inspiration.

What can I expect in my weekly share?

A Full Share feeds ~4 people and includes a selection of 9 seasonal leafy greens, root vegetables, squashes, and herbs. A Partial Share feeds ~2 people, and includes a selection of 9 seasonal leafy greens, root vegetables, squashes, and herbs. Both share types will include fruits or other goodies from neighboring farms from time to time; and will feature 1 cultural crop with a recipe suggestion!

Why is my share different from my friend’s share?

Each farmer’s produce grown at Flats Mentor Farm is their own and often reflects their culture and ethnic diversity. The featured ethnic crop will be one that is important to the farmers’ food heritage, and may be hard to find in the grocery store. Some of these crops may include muchicha/amaranth, lalu, jilo, chipilin, water spinach, tatsoi, sweet potato leaves, or pumpkin vines, to name a few. But no worries: we provide recipe cards and crop descriptors!

What are your payment options?

World Farmers is excited and proud to announce that our 2021 CSA has tiered pricing to accommodate those individuals who are food insecure. And, our CSA is now SNAP and HIP accessible. World Farmers is doing what we can to increase access to local, healthful food for all. As you reflect on which CSA share price to choose, please reflect on your personal financial standing, and your ability to pay a fair market price for small-scale local farmers. If you are a returning member, we ask that you pay the full CSA rate.

You can sign up after July 8th!

If you miss the July 8th start date, CSA signups are available throughout the season at a prorated rate. Just email us at: @csa@worldfarmers.org. Your CSA share will be available for pick up, two weeks after signing up.
