Farmer Flood Relief
FMF farmers experienced the full effects of climate change, with two devastating floods in the 2021 season. Every single one of the farmers in our program suffered near total crop loss in September after Henri and Ida hit – most of them for the second time after mid-July rains culminated in the first significant flood of the season.
In an attempt to compensate for these losses, World Farmers launched a Flats Mentor Farm Flood Relief Campaign where 100% of proceeds were distributed to FMF farmers.
We would like to thank everyone who donated and showed their support. In the end we raised a significate amount that helped ease the burden to our Farmers.
The flooding events experienced by the 354 immigrant and refugee farmers at Flats Mentor Farm have put the farmers’ businesses, livelihoods and food security at risk.
FMF farmers are experiencing the full effects of climate change, with two devastating floods this season to date. Every single one of the farmers in our program suffered near total crop loss in September after Henri and Ida hit – most of them for the second time after mid-July rains culminated in the first significant flood of the season.
All commercial FMF farmers have had to take multi-week hiatuses from their markets, while some never made it to market at all. Despite their multiple plantings this season, many farmers are closing out the year with little production and profits to show for their hard work, forcefully bringing FMF farmers’ season to a close.
In an attempt to compensate for these losses, World Farmers is launching a Flats Mentor Farm Flood Relief Campaign where 100% of proceeds will be distributed to FMF farmers.
Distribution of all funds raised during this campaign will be directed to our FMF Farmer Committee, made up fully of farmers at Flats Mentor Farm.
Support the 354 immigrant and refugee farmers of Flats Mentor Farm so that they may attempt to recover and return next year – to once again grow our food.
